Why compression stockings are fitted

Medical compression stockings apply graduated pressure to the leg. They come in different pressure levels, lengths and styles, and they only work as intended when the size matches your legs. That is why we measure in store rather than guessing from a shoe size. A fitting takes measurements at specific points on the ankle, calf and sometimes the thigh.

At Eastview Pharmacy you can be fitted for medical compression stockings in person. If your doctor or nurse practitioner has recommended a specific compression level, bring the note or prescription with you. Many extended health benefit plans cover compression stockings and orthotics, often with a prescription or doctor's note, so check your plan before your visit.

Caring for compression garments

Compression stockings last longer when they are washed gently, dried flat or on a low setting, and rotated between pairs. Most people replace them periodically as the fabric relaxes. If they become uncomfortable, cause pain or change colour of the skin, take them off and speak with your doctor or the pharmacist.

Questions about orthotics are welcome too. Call (905) 725-3594 to ask how orthotics are handled at Eastview Pharmacy and what your benefits plan may need from you. You may also find helpful items in our home health supplies.
